Friday Brunch at Jackie
Starts at Noon in Navy Yard
Four hours. A bottomless pour. The weekend, moved up a day.
Jackie: don't wait for the weekend, sit down in it.
What Friday Brunch at Jackie Is
Brunch at Jackie Restaurant is not only a weekend habit. The doors open for brunch every Friday from noon until 4:00 PM, at 79 Potomac Ave SE in Navy Yard, Washington DC. Same kitchen, same room, one day earlier than most people expect.
That four hour window is the whole point. It is long enough to arrive at noon after a morning of work and long enough to arrive at three with no intention of hurrying. Nothing about the service assumes you are on your way somewhere else.
A Friday that starts at a table instead of a desk changes the shape of the day. You order, you settle, and the weekend has quietly already begun.
The Bar, and How It Is Priced
Brunch drinking here is sold three ways, and the difference between them is not just the pour. Each one sets a different pace for the table.
$35 per person
Bottomless Brunch
Your choice of mimosa or bellini, with two conditions worth knowing before you book: it must be enjoyed by the entire table, and it runs for 90 minutes. Both terms are worth knowing before you book for a group.
$49
Mimosa Bar
Three juices and a bottle of Veuve Olivier Brut Rose, mixed at your own ratio rather than the kitchen's. For 30 more, the bottle becomes Contadi Castaldi Franciacorta Brut, which is the version to order when the brunch is the occasion and not the warm up.
$59
Lambrusco Bar
A bottle of red sparkling Lambrusco with a plate of chocolate and strawberries. Chocolate and strawberries put it closer to a dessert course than to an opening round.
What Is on the Brunch Menu
The brunch card runs from a plain two egg breakfast to a plate with salmon caviar on it, and the prices sit between $14 and $24. That spread lets one table order across the whole range.
Jackie Benedict
$24
Poached eggs, aurora sauce, salmon caviar and sauteed spinach on an English muffin. Salmon caviar and aurora sauce are the two things a standard benedict does not carry.
Banana Foster Belgian Waffle
$19
Caramelized banana, salted vanilla cream and berry. The salted vanilla cream is what sits against the caramelized banana.
American Breakfast
$23
Two eggs any style with your choice of protein, grilled tomatoes, breakfast potatoes and toast. The order for anyone who came for the room and the company rather than a project on a plate.
Shitake Mushroom & Eggs
$23 · vegetarian, gluten free
A vegan shitake mushroom patty with sauteed spinach, poached eggs and truffle hollandaise. It is priced at $23, the same as the American breakfast.
Butter Lettuce Salad
$14, add protein 14 to 15
Candied walnuts, radish and tarragon vinaigrette, with Mediterranean dorade fillet at 15, grilled chicken breast at 14 or Angus beef fillet at 15. The lightest way through a Friday afternoon that still has a plan after it.
Brunch Ends at Four. Happy Hour Starts at Four.
The two service windows meet exactly. Brunch runs until 4:00 PM and happy hour runs 4–6 PM, weekdays and weekends, at $5 beer, $7 wine and $9 cocktails. Nobody has to move, and nobody has to decide whether the afternoon is over.
That handoff is the practical argument for choosing a Friday over a Sunday. A Sunday brunch ends and the week starts. A Friday brunch ends and the price of the next round goes down. The two windows meet with no gap in between, which is what an American restaurant looks like when its hours are built around how the day actually runs.
Bringing a Group on a Friday
The sharing plates are where a Friday table actually starts. Focaccia is $9, marinated olives $7, torta de patata $11, potato and crab croquette $14, baby bell peppers with goat cheese and romesco $15, and burrata with rhubarb and strawberry chutney $16.
It is a workable plan for a Friday that includes an afternoon game, since the ballpark at Nationals Park is a short walk from the door. Among navy yard restaurants, this is one that opens its brunch service at noon on a Friday.
